Technology meets challenges and creates a better reality.

Digital twins enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI) will offer exponential added value to geodata and radically change processes in many industries for the better. This was the clear message delivered by Dr Burkhard Boeckem, CTO of Hexagon AB, in his keynote speech at the INTERGEO CONFERENCE 2024. Digital twins will enable the sustainable transformation of entire industries through better decisions, according to Boeckem. In construction, infrastructure planning and maintenance, mining, agriculture and urban planning, AI-supported digital twins will undoubtedly be a decisive factor in setting a sustainable course.

Artificial intelligence algorithms refine huge amounts of data into information that provides knowledge and insight. This applies to the construction industry, for example, through BIM-based construction and the early detection of deviations or conflicts by AI in digital twins. Land cover can be classified based on AI and displayed photorealistically for analyses and planning. Simulations of wind or lighting conditions help to advance urban planning. In the automotive industry, digital twins with AI are changing development processes. This technology meets complex global challenges head on and has the potential to create a better reality, says Boeckem.
